You are now able to break a memory record from anywhere in the world at any time!
As of now, world records can only be done at competitions and not in a training setting. We don’t need world records to only be “official” just because they’re done at competitions with arbiters. Who are these arbiters anyway, and why should they be more official than anyone else watching an attempt? They’re not. Anyone can review a video and see if an attempt looks valid or not.
What makes what we are doing different is that the community will review each video to check if everything looks legitimate or if something seems off. Then, everyone will vote. If someone says something looks off, they have to explain exactly why: what’s off, and what makes them think that. Every post in this category will include a poll where people can vote on whether they think the attempt is legit or fake.
Now, I realize some people might try to fake things or get others to vote a certain way. But that’s why every vote has to be backed with a reason. If people mark attempts as fake without giving an explanation, those votes won’t count.
The reason we’re doing this publicly, with community verification, is because there’s real power in the community. A Reddit example comes to mind when there was that viral post where a woman took a baseball from a man and his kid, and the internet quickly found out who she was. That’s the power of people working together.
This setup allows anyone to break a world record from anywhere. If you can’t attend a competition, this gives you the opportunity to still make your attempt official because these records will be recognized by the community itself. If the community confirms that an attempt is legit, then that record is officially recognized.
Below are the requirements you must follow for your record to even be considered. Follow them exactly. There’s also a link where you’ll submit your attempt on the main site, and a video there showing how to set up everything properly.
Submit a record: World Records
Part of the requirement is to make a post here on the forum with the video of the attempt. When you post here on the forum, make sure to include your record attempt in the title. For example:
Record Attempt – Cards – [Your Name]
This helps keep everything organized and easy to filter through. Also, specify exactly what event, type, and time variation in the body of the post.
Depending on the feedback of each record attempt post, we can declare the record official after a couple of days or sooner. I do want to try to do something special for record holders at the end of the month, but I will have to see.
Each post will include a poll where people can vote whether an attempt looks legit or fake/invalid. If someone thinks an attempt looks off, they’ll have to explain why and not just vote “fake/invalid.”
Votes without valid reasoning won’t count.
You definitely want to try to break records and get an official one! Remember there are a lot of events on Blitz Memory: Best Memory Training Site !
